Medicare supplement insurance – You pay the full premium. It can cost anywhere from $1,500 to $3,000 or more per year.

Medicare Advantage plans – Government pays a subsidy to private insurance companies to offer these plans. This allows them to give you a very low premium and in some cases a zero premium.
